Diese Pflanzen sind mehr oder weniger blattsukkulent mit Blättern in Rosetten. Es sind einkeimblättrige Pflanzen, überwiegend aus Nordamerika. Mit ihnen fühlt man sich wie am Mittelmeer oder ein wenig wie in Mexico. Insbesondere stammbildende Arten (Y. recurvifolia, Y. elata, Y. thompsoniana etc.) wirken exotisch. Selbst einige Agaven halten an geeigneter Stelle aus und erzeugen bei Laien oft grosses Erstaunen, besonders im Winter… Nachfolgend werden einige Beispiele und Erfahrungen präsentiert. Es handelt sich keineswegs um abschliessende Listen. Yuccas and in very protected situations even Agave give a special touch to any planting. These fibrous, leafy succulents form rosettes, some produce a short stem in age (Y. recurvifolia, Y. elata, Y. thompsoniana etc.). These monocotyledons are from northern America. A planting with them meakes you feel like being in Mexico or the Mediterranean. Agave, so rarely planted outside in central Europe will cause astonishment to your friends. Yucca Yuccas are a must in a xeric garden. Beside the species mentioned, there are many more borderline plants and many very interesting hybrids! Hesperoyucca  Hesperaloe	Hesperaloe parviflora ist ein dankbarer und genügend frostharter Vertreter er Gattung. Die Blütenrispe erblüht ab Mai und bringt Blüten bis in den Oktober! Die Pflanzen sind selbtteril. Verzweigung nach der Blüte. This plant is very hardy. Once flowering the flowering stalk produces flowers from June to october! Branching after flowering. Hesproyucca whipplei ist nur teils genügend frosthart. Viele Populationen sprossen nicht und nach der gigantischen Blüte ist die Pflanze verloren. Es gibt aber auch sprosende Formen. Die monokarpe Art ist selbststeril. Einmal in Blüte (nach vielen Jahren) ist man erstaunt ab dem imposanten Blütenstand. This plant is a borderline plant. Agave	Einige Empfehlungen / some recommendations: A. bracteosa A. neomexicana A cf. ocahui A. parryi var. couesii A. utahensis var. kaibabensis A. toumeyana Zahlreiche Agaven sind in Mitteleuropa frosthart, nur wenige in günstigsten Lagen bedingt winterhart. Der Blütenstand der meisten Agaven bedeutet zwar deren Ende, ist aber sehr eindrücklich. A number of Agave can take quite some frost, but not much moisture. A. parryi seems among the hardiest. Dasylirion	Drei Arten können empfohlen werden / These three species can be recommended: D. wheeleri, D. greenei, D. texanum. Die schmalen Blätter sind gezähnt. Their narrow leaves have many sharp teeth.	Dasylirion wheeleri
Nolina	Die schmalen Blätter sind ungezähnt. Narrow leaves without teeth.
Beschorneria	Beschorneria yuccoides wird oft als härteste Art angegeben. Auf den Brissago-Inseln wächst B. tubiflora offenbar gut. Über Erfahrungen nördlich der Alpen ist mir nichts bekannt. Beschorneria yuccoides seems to be the hardiest. In the Ticino this and B. tubiflora seem to grow well. North of the Alps no experience is known to me.
